Note on Voyage to Iceland 1940
Jim left for Iceland on the Empress of Australia, out of Halifax harbour. This was the same ship that had brought the King and Queen to Canada for their 1939 Royal Visit. The Empress of Australia had not yet been converted to a troop ship, and still had their crew, first class cabins, etc. So, Jim got a First Class Cabin and had a very enjoyable journey to Iceland.
